THoD Newsdesk, Jammu: The new year in Jammu had kicked off with a three-day Gondola Festival, which would showcase the Bagh-e-Bahu Gondola facility, linking Bagh-e-Bahu with Mahamaya and Peer Kho. It was being hoped that this fest would engage the tourists and showcase indigenous culture with other engaging activities during the celebrations, according to an official release.
The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu, in collaboration with J-K Cable Car Corporation, is looking forward to pushing the pilgrim tourism in the city. The first phase connecting Mahamaya Temple is now operational and the second phase from Mahamaya to Peer Kho, is in its concluding stage. This linkage will propel tourist footfall as well. Keeping in sight the coronavirus outbreak, the J-K Cable Car Corporation followed all the issued COVID-19 norms, to ensure that the transmission rate of the virus remains null.
The Gondola Festival was inaugurated by Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary, Tourism and Culture in presence of Majid Khalil Ahmad Drabu, Managing Director, J-K Cable Car Corporation and Raj Kumar Katoch, Director Tourism, Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary of Tourism appreciated the efforts taken by Jammu’s Directorate of Tourism, in organising this fest.
The event commenced with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony followed by cultural performances by local artists and other activities too, were lined up to keep the attendees looped in. Departmental stalls of horticulture, handloom, handicrafts, JKTDC and so on, were also displayed during the event which garnered a colossal response from the tourists thronging the scenic locale of Bahu Fort forests.
