About the hotel
Amangalla stands at 10 Church Street inside the ramparts of Galle Fort, the 17th-century fortification on Sri Lanka’s south coast that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to Wikipedia, the oldest part of the complex dates to 1684 and it was completed in 1715, serving first as the Dutch commanders’ headquarters and later as quarters for British soldiers. It was converted into the New Oriental Hotel in 1865 and became Amangalla under Aman in 2005.
Aman’s website lists seven accommodation categories, from Bedrooms and Chambers to Suites and the two-storey Garden House, in the Church Street, Middle Street and Garden wings. The hotel contains The Dining Room, which opens onto a veranda facing Church Street, an Aman Spa with hydrotherapy suites, a swimming pool in the gardens and a covered yoga pavilion.
