About the hotel
Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok is at 48 Oriental Avenue in the Bang Rak district, on the bank of the Chao Phraya River. The hotel’s website states that it opened as The Oriental Hotel in 1876, and a September 2026 press release says it is marking its 150th anniversary. Wikipedia records that Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group acquired a 49 per cent interest in 1974 and that the hotel took its present name in 2008.
The hotel has 331 rooms, including 60 suites, and the River Wing was redesigned by Jeffrey Wilkes. Its website lists 12 restaurants and bars, among them Anne-Sophie Pic at Le Normandie, The China House by Chef Fei, Baan Phraya and The Bamboo Bar. Facilities include a spa with 18 treatment rooms, two outdoor pools, tennis courts and the Royal Ballroom. Paul Jones was announced as General Manager on 14 September 2026.
