Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong is at 5 Connaught Road Central. It opened as The Mandarin, with a soft opening on 1 September 1963 and an official opening on 25 October 1963, according to the group’s hotel history. The 27-storey building was designed by John Howarth of Leigh & Orange, with interiors by Don Ashton. It is operated by Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

The hotel opened with 650 rooms. It closed for nine months in 2005 for a renovation costing USD 150 million and reopened on 28 September 2006 with 501 rooms. The hotel’s site currently describes newly renovated rooms and suites. Restaurants and bars include Man Wah, Mandarin Grill + Bar, The Aubrey, The Krug Room, The Chinnery, Clipper Lounge, CafĂ© Causette, Captain’s Bar and the rooftop Terrace Boulud. There is also a spa, a salon, a barber and a cake shop.
