About the hotel
Castiglion del Bosco is an estate of about 2,000 hectares (roughly 5,000 acres) near Montalcino in the province of Siena, within the Val d’Orcia UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to Rosewood, the castle on the estate was built in the 12th century and survives as ruins. Massimo Ferragamo bought the estate in 2003 and founded the resort with Chiara Ferragamo. Rosewood Hotels & Resorts was appointed to manage it in January 2015.
The resort has 42 suites and 11 villas. The villas, created from restored farmhouses, have three to six bedrooms and private heated pools. Interiors are by Chiara Ferragamo with Teresa Bürgisser Sancristoforo. The estate contains two restaurants, Ristorante Campo del Drago and Osteria La Canonica, a cooking school, a spa in the former wine cellars, an 18-hole private golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf, and a Brunello di Montalcino winery with 62 hectares of vineyards.
