About the hotel
Raffles Hotel Singapore stands at 1 Beach Road. It opened to the public on 1 December 1887 as a 10-room hotel founded by the Armenian Sarkies brothers and was named after Sir Stamford Raffles. The main building, completed in 1899, was designed by Regent Alfred John Bidwell of Swan and Maclaren. The Singapore government declared the hotel a National Monument in 1987, its centenary year.
The hotel closed in March 1989 for its first complete restoration and reopened on 16 September 1991. It became part of Katara Hospitality, a Qatar-based hotel owner, developer and operator, in 2011, and a further restoration begun in 2017 ended with reopening in August 2019. It is operated under the Raffles Hotels & Resorts brand of Accor and has 115 suites. Venues include 1887 by André, 藝 yì by Jereme Leung, Butcher’s Block, Tiffin Room, Long Bar and Writers Bar, with a spa and outdoor pool.
