About the hotel
San Ysidro Ranch lies in the Montecito foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains, near Santa Barbara, California. The official website describes 38 vine-covered cottages set among gardens, citrus groves and olive trees, each with a sunken spa and an outdoor rainfall shower. Dining is included with each stay and takes place at The Stonehouse, a former 19th-century citrus packing facility, The Veranda and The Speakeasy bar.
According to Wikipedia, a ranch house built in 1892 later became The Hacienda and plans were made at that time for a small hotel. After the Depression the property was sold to the actor Ronald Colman and the hotelier Alvin Weingand. Ty Warner acquired the ranch in 2000 and placed it under Ty Warner Hotels & Resorts. Mudslides on 9 January 2018 led to a ruptured gas line that destroyed half of the ranch.
