THoD Newsdesk, Mumbai: In an effort to lower the transmission of COVID-19 through inter-state movement, the authorities at the Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) have formed special zones to test all domestic passengers coming in from Delhi, Goa, Rajasthan and Gujarat, for the virus. The airport authorities have stated that all travellers, arriving from these regions will be directed to the test zone, located near the baggage carousel, to undertake the mandatory RT-PCR test before they leave the premises.
As per the issued order by the state of Maharashtra, preventive protocols have been set in motion to keep a check on the oncoming domestic travellers at Mumbai Airport. This order mentions that travellers arriving from Delhi, Goa, Gujarat and Rajasthan are expected to either show a negative COVID-19 test report, conducted by the RT-PCR method from any ICMR approved lab or undertake the test upon arrival in Mumbai. The CSMIA, in line with this directive, has formed dedicated test zones inside the airport premises.
The Maharashtra government has absolved armed forces personnel and their families from this rule. This was authorised after the Indian Army informed the authorities that they are complying stringently with the issued COVID-19 protocols.
The civic body of Mumbai, BMC, has also launched a protocol on the same breadth, for passengers at 6 major railway stations in the city.
