THoD Newsdesk, Maharashtra: The CM of Maharashtra has instructed the state tourism department to look into the plans of revamping Mahabaleshwar into a major tourist destination. This scenic hill station, located 5.5 hours away from Mumbai, is nestled amidst the picturesque Western Ghats and is known for its waterfalls, peaks, temples and lush green forests, amidst others. Among the expansive touristy spots here in this town, Kate’s Point, Wilson’s Point and Elephant’s Point are some of the highlights. The Pune International Airport is closest to Mahabaleshwar and is at a distance of 120-km.
The Chief Minister has further asked the tourism officials to develop the Venna Lake and to increase the height of the dam as well. Along with this, the water storage capacity of the Venna dam, which supplies water to Mahabaleshwar, will also be enlarged.
Additionally, the CM has suggested that Mahabaleshwar will be developed into an adventure, nature, religious, heritage and agricultural tourism spot. As per the news, the scope of tourism here will have to be expanded and the department of tourism has been asked to regard this work as a priority.
