THoD Newsdesk, Belgium: As per a study conducted in 10 countries by the European Travel Commission and supported by the European Union, about 54% of Europeans plan to take a trip within Europe during the next six months.
The study was conducted in France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, the United Kingdom Austria and Belgium. These countries generate significant tourism revenue and the respondents of the research, agree that travelling will set the wheels in motion of the sluggish tourism sector that has been hit worst by the pandemic, globally.
The survey read, “54 per cent of respondents intend to take a trip in the next six months, while 26 per cent state that they plan to travel by November 2020. Travel within Europe is a top choice with 41 per cent intending to travel within their own country and 39 per cent to other European destinations. Only 11 per cent consider a trip outside Europe in the six months.”
The top three types of destinations preferred by European citizens for short travels are beach holidays, city breaks and outdoor trips. Interestingly, Spain, France and Italy continue to be popular amongst the citizens even after being worst hit by the pandemic. Travellers are particularly making plans for shorter trips because of the travel quarantine rules, increasing infections and a fear of falling sick at the destination.
The European Tourism Convention’s president, Luis Araujo, suggests that these three concerns need solutions to increase travel. He is of the opinion that travel quarantine rules are disruptive in travelling and should be replaced with increasing testing.
Citizens who are choosing to travel within Europe, have cited peace of mind and health and safety as the key factors leading to their travel plans. Luis Araujo has also emphasized on the need for European Union to act now in a coordinated manner to save the livelihoods of those who depend on the tourism sector for survival.
