- FSSAI has extended the period for modification of licence by existing FSSAI licensed manufacturers without any modification charges
THoD Newsdesk, New Delhi: FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) has issued a directive, extending the period for modification of licence by existing FSSAI licensed manufacturers without any modification charges. The timeline has been pushed until June 30, 2021, after a meeting was held on this subject at the FSSAI headquarters.
The order states, “It is informed that the period for modification of licence by existing FSSAI licensed manufacturers, without any modification fee is extended till June 30, 2021,” and it is applicable only for manufacturers, inclusive of re-packers and re-labellers.
Back in May this year, the FSSAI had ordered for the alteration of the licences due to migration of the existing Food Licence and Registration System (FLRS) to Food Safety and Compliance System (FoSCoS) and the last date for the modification was pegged at December 31, 2020. As per the reports of FSSAI, last year the food authority had granted the proposal regarding the mapping of standardised food products with a food category system in place. The purpose behind it was the licensing and registration of manufacturers and thereafter, the authorities had invited comments and later they were all carefully analysed.
Under the Food Licensing and Registration System, the manufacturer applicant has to type out the name of the food product to be manufactured in the text box provided. On the other hand, in the FoSCoS, the manufacturers will have to draw out a standardised product, only out of the mentioned ones on the licensing platform. As per sources, standardised products have classifications as per food category system and if the product does not fall under the standardised category, the FBO needs to apply under proprietary food, non-specified food or supplements/nutraceuticals category as the case may be.
In case of existing FBOs holding valid licensing for manufacturing of food products, FSSAI states that they need to modify their existing licence upon transferring to FoSCoS. The window for this modification was pegged at December 31, which now has been postponed till the 30th of June, 2021.
