THoD Newsdesk, New Delhi: Earlier this week, FSSAI stated that its Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) will blanket the entire country from the 1st of November. Since June, the first phase of it has been functional in nine States/UTs, namely, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha, Chandigarh, Goa, Manipur, Puducherry and Ladakh. FoSCoS is a cloud-based one-stop point, initiated for the engagement of a food business operator (FBO) with the department, for any regulatory compliance transaction.
In this context, the FSSAI issued a notice saying, “It is informed that the launch of the second phase of FoSCoS in remaining 27 states is planned on 1st November 2020 and to enable the same, (the existing) FLRS shall be closed for remaining 27 states with effect from 21st October 11 pm.”
The official notice mentioned that all the materials related to migration strategy, standard operating procedure and FAQs have been provided at the home page of the FoSCoS. The statement further added, “It is hereby advised that the users of the system of the remaining 27 states may complete their pending task related to FSSAI Licensing and Registration on FLRS.”
The authorities have also added a new version of the Food Safety Connect (Consumer Grievance) portal, which will be made live with the FoSCoS. As per reports by the FSSAI, since 2011, the FSSAI’s online licensing platform, FLRS, has been the backbone of the licensing ecosystem with 100% India (all state and UTs) coverage. The body has issued 70 lakh licences/registrations till date and over 40 lakh active licensees/registrants are transacting on it.
Furthermore, FSSAI informed that FoSCoS has been linked with the FoSCoRIS mobile app and will soon integrate with the present IT platforms of FSSAI such as INFOLNet, FoSTaC and FICS.
FSSAI’s statement said, “Sample management, improvement notices, adjudications, audit management system etc. activities/ modules will be enabled in a phased manner in future. Technologies such as GPS location tagging, picture capture etc. will be utilised in future to ensure transparent and accountable extension field services such as inspections and sampling.”
Additionally, the FSSAI was quoted saying, “A single regulatory platform will enable pan-India integrated response system to any food fraud and ensure an advanced risk-based, data-driven regulatory approach. For the start, FoSCoS will be offering licensing, registration, inspection and annual return modules.”
In the near future, to ensure overall profiling and validation of businesses, FoSCoS will be consolidated with the other portals of the Government of India such as GST, PAN and MCA.
